Call it a sweet outcome.
A few months after going viral for putting her resume on a cake, a North Carolina State University graduate has scored her “dream job” as director of marketing at CureMint, a Durham-based startup offering procurement software for dental practices.
Karly Pavlinac Blackburn made headlines after she saw a job opportunity at Nike (NYSE: NKE) and sent the global apparel company a cake with her resume on it as a way to stand out among job applicants. Nike didn't bite with a job offer, but Blackburn's post on LinkedIn about the resume cake drew thousands of comments and shares – connecting her with countless potential job opportunities, she said.
In a LinkedIn post announcing her new role with CureMint, Blackburn offered advice for others searching for a new job.
“It is a time to be curious and see what is out there,” she wrote. “This viral resume cake story was such a blessing, allowing me to talk to hundreds of amazing people at various companies.”
Pavlinac, who now lives in Wilmington, perviously cofounded WAAM, a viral fitness app that aimed to make VIP/Celebrity workouts available to the masses. It scored celebrity trainers such as David Higgins – a trainer for Hollywood stars such as Samuel L. Jackson.
The company went on to raise $500,000 in venture capital funds from Cofounders Capital in Cary. It was acquired in 2021 by The St. James, a sports and wellness firm based in Virginia.
