A 5-year-old Raleigh-based patient engagement software firm has announced a blockbuster partnership – one that, according to CEO Paul Jaglowski, opens up international opportunity.

FeedTrail has teamed up with Synlab, a European medical diagnostic services provider, in a move that puts Feedtrail’s real-time patient feedback platform in 2,100 sites across 36 countries.

Jaglowski called the deal “huge from a credibility standpoint.” In the U.S., the company has been able to work with major health care brands such as Mayo Clinic and Cedars Sinnai. And this move means potential on the other side of the Atlantic.

“This opens us up on an international level,” Jaglowski said.

Hospitals, clinicians and patients can evaluate Synlab’s service in real time through Feedtrail, helping Synlab maintain a continuous dialogue.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Partnership discussions started before the pandemic, with a small implementation in Finland. But as Covid-19 spread, Synlab, according to Jaglowski, realized patient counts would only be increasing.

“They needed a central way to monitor and make sure the patient experience was consistent,” he said.

Even with the head start, though, closing a deal amidst rising case counts was frustrating, even “comical at times,” Jaglowski said. It involved virtual meetings in multiple time zones. In the meantime, the firm continues to grow in-country.

Feedtrail has 24 employees and it’s hiring.
Pre-pandemic, most of the team was in North Carolina. But now, as the company is primarily remote, 75 percent of its headcount is outside of the state, Jaglowski estimates.

The company has actually downsized its Raleigh office space.

And suddenly, the competition for talent is everywhere. Like many companies in the Triangle, Feedtrail is hiring – specifically in software development.

“Recruiting is tough right now,” Jaglowski said.

The pandemic has also complicated implementation of the technology, as Feedtrail can’t get on site with its clients. Jaglowski said the firm has had to pivot how it engages with customers and develop training videos. But, in pushing so many employees remote, Feedtrail has been able to broaden its global presence.

“We can hire from all over the country and that ensures our customers have support, ideally from their own time zones,” he said.

As far as dollars go, Jaglowski said the company has doubled its revenue annually in recent years.

Feedtrail last raised outside capital in 2020, an $800,000 round, securities filings show.
