Once again, an investor is betting millions on a virtual training firm in Raleigh.

Quietly, Raleigh-based Pro-ficiency has raised nearly $3.2 million from a single investor, according to a securities filing disclosed last week. CEO Michael Raymer was not immediately available to comment on the financing round, which comes just over a year after its last $3 million raise.

Pro-ficiency, backed by NovaQuest, builds simulation training programs for clinical trial investigators. Last year Raymer said the pandemic produced opportunities for the firm. He said business had actually doubled over the last year, and that he expected a repeat in 2021 as the remote working push had increased the need for virtual options.

“It’s one of those stories, the right company with the right technology at the right time,” he said at the time

Raymer said to expect continued growth – as demand would just increase.

“Our model works well whether you’re locked down on Covid or you start opening up … we just bring a lot of efficiency and effectiveness to the clinical training process,” he said last year. “There’s a certain percentage of the market that will stay virtual.”
