2021 was a record setter in terms of venture capital activity – and the Triangle was no exception.
A report released Thursday by PitchBook showed U.S. venture-backed companies raised $329.9 billion in 2021, nearly double the previous record of $166.6 billion set in 2020.
PitchBook compiled a list of biggest deals in major metros for 2021 as part of its report – and it highlighted several mega-raises in the Triangle.
In the Raleigh metro, the five biggest raises were:
- Epic Games: $1 billion
- Pendo: $150 million
- Istari Oncology: $43 million
- JupiterOne: $30 million
- Inceptor Bio: $26 million
In the Durham metro, the five biggest raises were:
- CData: $140 million
- AgBiome: $116 million
- Pairwise: $90 million
- StrideBio: $82 million
- Xilis: $70 million
The PitchBook list did not include a $150 million raise reported by Durham solar firm Strata Solar.
