Greensboro's newest public company, Guerrilla RF (OTCQX: GUER), is expanding its product portfolio and technology platforms.

The 9-year-old semiconductor company, which went public last October in a reverse action merger and has been on a hiring spree, has begun mass production for its new GRF6402 digital step attenuator (DSA) – the company’s first silicon-on-insulator (SOI) product. An attenuator is defined by Collins English Dictionary as any device designed to reduce the power of a wave or electrical signal without distorting it.

Since going public, Guerrilla RF has reported record sales and revenue. The company has also been transitioning from a licensing model to a proprietary product model.

At the end of July, Guerrilla RF’s stock officially began trading on the Over-The-Counter (OTC) Market’s QX tier, the highest tier within that market.

“We are excited to be moving our first SOI device into production. This marks an important milestone for Guerrilla RF as we launch an entirely new product line and technology platform,” founder and CEO Ryan Pratt said. “This industry-leading SOI technology enables us to expand Guerrilla RF’s catalog to include switches, step attenuators, variable gain amplifiers, cores with complex bias control and other similar products.

“We believe these new products will be key to driving accelerated growth in strategic markets like automotive telematics and 5G communications.”

The GRF6402 is a SPI-controlled, bi-directional DSA with a 31.75 dB range in 0.25 dB increments. GRF6402 also allows up to eight unique devices to share a common SPI bus.

The device also includes a special “Rapid Fire” selection pin that allows it to be immediately switched into a pre-defined attenuation state. With the “Rapid Fire” feature, the GRF6402 will reduce overall component count – leading to savings in footprint and cost.

“The GRF6402 is a prime example of how Guerrilla RF utilized SOI to address the special needs of its customer base,” said Jim Ahne, vice president of automotive and 5G products. “Our marketing, sales and engineering teams collaborated directly with select customers to define and design a drop-in compatible DSA with a novel twist on the device’s serial controller.

“We believe that our new Rapid Fire control scheme will lead to significant cost and performance enhancements for many TDD (Test Driven Development) and fast-attack applications that require quick state toggling.”

Guerrilla RF has samples and evolution boards available now for the GRF6402.
