Meet the notetaking app that's part Google, part Facebook and is targeting Tampa businesses

Twos Technologies, an app that facilitates public and private notetaking, is going straight to Tampa businesses for its new go-to-market strategy.

Twos provides a digital platform for users to write things down – to-do lists, grocery lists, things to remember, places to go, you name it. And users can choose which notes to share publicly and which to keep private.

The original concept was similar to Facebook or Twitter, but Twos differs by combining personal and public online writing, said co-founder Parker Klein.

“You can choose to share bits and pieces,” Klein said. “But you have a place to record whatever you want, regardless of whether you’re going to share it or not.”

Twos is useful for businesses looking to share information directly with customers in a quick and concise way, co-founder Joe Steilberg added. The company has started collaborating with businesses like Urban Kai, a kayak rental company along the Tampa Riverwalk.

Passers-by can scan a QR code outside of Urban Kai to pull up a Twos page with all of the business’ information. Users can save this page to their Twos portfolio, making it quicker to access again if they forget the details, compared to a Google search or website visit.

“Forgetting things stinks,” Steilberg said. “That’s our whole slogan. The more things you write down or save in Twos, the easier it is to remember and to share.”

It’s also a much more adaptive platform than a typical website, he said.

“It’s live information that the owner or the manager of the establishment can update at any time,” Steilberg said. “When things are out of stock, when you have a special price or a promo,” the company can easily let customers know.

Collaborating with businesses will not only benefit Tampa companies, Klein and Steilberg said, but allow customers to get familiar with the platform as well.

Klein, a former software developer, had the idea for Twos back in 2015. But it didn’t come into fruition until the pandemic hit and he and Steilberg had more free time.

Klein and Steilberg are new to Tampa. They moved here in January before leaving their jobs to work full-time on Twos in March and May, respectively.

The pair are currently the only employees, but they plan to hire more soon.

Hiring and finding investors – Twos is currently bootstrapped – will be priorities after establishing a legitimized customer base, Steilberg said.

“We plan on going back to investors with evidence that people want and need this, and we want and need more employees,” he said.

Twos users are spread throughout the country, though there are large concentrations in Tampa, Austin and California, Klein said. People are even stumbling across Twos internationally and the company has users in India and China.

Klein and Steilberg have big plans for Twos, hoping to become a household name.

“I know that sounds crazy,” Steilberg said. “But we want to streamline information. And we know if we don’t, some other company will.”
