The Florida Center for Cybersecurity, also known as Cyber Florida, housed at the University of South Florida, has launched a new training initiative backed by state funding.
CyberSecureFlorida Training is funded by Specific Appropriation 2944B and has been authorized by the Florida State Legislature. The program will train state and local government personnel on evolving digital security, according to a release. It was intended to be released in January but was delayed and launched in June.
The appropriation allocates $30 million in nonrecurring funds to Cyber Florida. The center will conduct cybersecurity training for executive, managerial, technical and general staff in state and local government agencies.
Cyber Florida was established in 2014 to position Florida as a cybersecurity leader with education, research and outreach. There are an estimated 100,000 state employees and 1 million local government employees, which increases the demand for cybersecurity training. To complete the new training, the center will work with state colleges and universities and online resources.
