A Tampa-based space startup has received the highest award from the Modelo College of Engineering in Mexico to honor one of its engineers.
Andrea Márquez, an aerospace/mechatronics engineer working at Merida Aerospace, was recognized for her work on the planetary rover project. The rover is designed for various operations, including commercial applications, security, surveillance, border monitoring, and lunar and planetary exploration.
The Merida Aerospace team guided Marquez to complete the task by giving her a platform to bring her ideas to reality. The project competed against nearly 50 other projects in the "prototype design" category.
Her rover consisted of an advanced model of the Mars Perseverance Rover, which is currently operating on Mars, according to a release. It utilizes 3D printing techniques and an aluminum structure to provide strength and durability for the rover.
Merida Aerospace is a technology and services startup based in Tampa with production, data analysis and launch sites in Merida, Mexico. The company's engineers can design and build multiple products and devices in collaboration with each other to create space devices such as rockets, satellites and lunar landings.
