An e-learning content development company has moved its headquarters from the suburbs of Atlanta to St. Petersburg.

Enovate Learning LLC officially made the move Aug. 1.

“There were three basic reasons: The weather is great, but St. Pete really has a growing tech scene,” Rema Merrick, Enovate’s owner, said. “There’s this entirely entrepreneurial spirit; it’s up and coming, and it’s a really great place to grow this business.”

She also pointed to the large talent pool the handful of local universities can offer, lower cost of living and the city’s reputation for boosting female entrepreneurs.

The company was founded in 2019 and creates custom e-learning content for a client’s development, ranging from technical training to onboarding. Merrick launched the company after working for American Airlines, creating similar types of content for flight attendants.

“I decided I wanted to go out and create a legacy for myself,” the Jamaica native said.

She hopes to have six employees by the end of next year. The company is entirely bootstrapped, with no solid plans for a seed round — although Merrick is open to investment.

Despite the move, Enovate is remote first. Contractors are based around the country, and Merrick plans to initially use St. Pete coworking space Station House as the office’s home base.

However, she plans to tout herself as a St. Pete company — and commit to the region.

“It was important for me to be a St. Pete company; I want to be in the community,” she said. “Yes, we’re remote, but I want to give back to local agencies. One of the things that’s always been important to me is to embed myself in the community and be a positive force where I live. And I want the company to be connected to where I live.”
