While Tampa Bay may be the middle of the pack for tech talent, according to CBRE's latest report the region shined with one population: millennials.

Tampa Bay ranked No. 10 among the 50 largest tech talent markets in the nation, with a millennial population increase of 14.5% since 2014, which totals more than 84,525 people. The usual suspects remained supreme: San Francisco was No. 1 on the annual list, with Seattle, Washington, D.C., Toronto and New York City rounding out the top.

The region fell overall to No. 33 on the annual Tech Talent Analyzer report, down from No. 29 in 2020. The report, conducted by CBRE Group (NYSE: CBRE), analyzes 13 metrics of a regions' ability to attract and develop tech talent, ranging from tech graduation rates, tech-job concentration, tech labor pool size, and labor and real estate costs.

Tampa Bay did have some standout marks, though. It was No. 28 overall among the largest tech talent labor pool, with roughly 53,000 tech workers. It also has the ninth fastest-growing tech talent labor pool among the top 50 regions, increasing 23.5% since 2015. The region's overall tech talent labor pool is roughly 53,900 workers.

“Tampa continues to attract tech talent ... adding 2,274 more tech jobs than tech degrees to its workforce ... [which has] contributed greatly to the growth of tech talent in the market,” Michael DiBlasi, managing director of CBRE in Tampa, said in a statement. “Along with the market’s millennial population growth, diverse tech graduates and strong labor pool, we expect Tampa to continue to grow as a tech talent market in the future.”
