Tampa Bay has the top venture capital firm in the southeast and is now being lauded as one of the best places to work in tech in the nation.

SmartAsset released a report of the best places to work in technology in the U.S., with the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater MSA coming in at No. 18.

The report analyzed 50 metros in the nation, narrowing the list down to the top 25 based on five criteria: percentage of workforce in tech, average tech salary, ratio of the tech salary to the average salary, percentage of job listings in tech and the cost of living.

According to the report, the Tampa Bay MSA breaks down as follows:

• Workforce in tech: 3.51 percent

• Average tech salary: $84,300

• Ratio of the tech salary to the average salary: 1.70

• Percentage of job listings in tech: 13.62 percent

• Annual cost of living: $22,949

Tampa Bay was one of two Floridian metros to make the list, with the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metro topping the list at No. 1. It beat out Tampa Bay in every metric, and its low cost of living at a little over $20,000, and high percentage of tech jobs at over 23 percent pushed the region to the top spot.
