It's not surprising Homee, whose first employee got a tattoo of the company logo, landed at the top of a best employers in the nation list.

The company with an on-demand property maintenance app came in at No. 10 on Forbes' inaugural list of best startup employers, which ranked the top 500 in the nation.

"I think we made the list because of our growth as a company, our ability," Doug Schaedler said. "A lot of our programs are team ones, so we get very heavy interaction with the group. It's a great, exciting place to work — (with our office), it's a nice layout for everyone and people love coming to work."

The list was compiled in part by Statista. It evaluated 2,500 companies founded between 2010 and 2017 with at least 50 employees. All the considered companies had to start from scratch. The firm looked at articles, blogs, and social media posts for each employers searching for specific terms including "employee engagement" and "corporate culture." It also reviewed startups' reviews on sites such as Indeed and Glassdoor to measure employee satisfaction.

Schaedler added the fact every one of his 100+ employees is a shareholder for the company further helps the company's status as a great place to work.

The startup, which was founded in 2016, previously made headlines in 2019 for securing $15 million. Schaedler believes lists such as Forbes can bring help shine a light on local startups, specifically in the Sunshine State.

"(It can be helpful) particularly for Florida; it is still catching up with a lot of national averages with venture funding being deployed," he said.

Out of the list of the final 500, health tech firm Peerfit also made the list at No. 209.

Peerfit, a digital health platform, also recently raised a major round: in February, it announced it closed a $10 million bridge round with eyes to triple that in a Series D round by the end of the year. It employs roughly 150 employees and is in 13,000 locations; between 20 to 30 of its employees are local.
