Not Just TV: Comcast Seeking Startups for Accelerator

Lift Labs
Comcast NBCUniversal's accelerator, Lift Labs, is looking for a second round of Florida entrepreneurs to join its accelerator in Philadelphia.

NBCUniversal is doing more than just offering late night T.V. — they're looking for Florida startups to join their latest accelerator program.

From now until April 7, the Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator is looking for 12 startups to participate in a 13-week program which kicks off June 15. Parting from a typical accelerator, the startups chosen for the program will have access to the NBCUniversal partners like XFINITY Technology, NBC and Telemundo broadcast stations and cable networks, Universal Studios and Universal theme parks, DreamWorks and Comcast Business and Ventures.

NBCUniversal is teaming up with TechStars, which is a Boulder-based accelerator. The companies will partner with the mentors at the Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia, where they have workshops, training sessions and business meetings. Like other Tampa Bay accelerators, there will be a Demo Day in October where the companies will pitch their business to investors, Comcast NBCUniversal executives and members of the community.

"After an incredibly successful inaugural class that resulted in many learnings, pilots, proofs of concepts, and deals, we are thrilled to offer this opportunity to a new group of entrepreneurs and host them in Philadelphia this summer,” said Sam Schwartz, Chief Business Development Officer of Comcast Cable in a press release. “Entrepreneurialism is an important part of our heritage, and we’re excited to continue working side-by-side with startups to push the boundaries of innovation.”

Those chosen will also have a space to use in the Comcast Technology Center until June 2020.

The startups can fall into one of four categories:

• "Smart Places" for companies that empower people and businesses to connect anywhere in a fast, efficient and reliable manner

• "Immersive + Interactive Experiences" for companies that get users engaged through interactive platforms, connected gaming or other entertainment experiences

• "Digital-First Customer Engagement" for companies creating or enable personalized customer experiences and solutions

• "Next-Gen Marketing" for companies that analyze, predict and shift customer behavior to market themselves in a digital world
