February roundup: Tampa Bay acquisitions, promotions, partnerships and expansions you missed

In the midst of conferences, events and an entire week dedicated to innovation, the tech news did not slow down in Tampa Bay in February.

With four local acquisitions, three partnerships with national giants and at least two new headquarters opening, we've got the news you may have missed last month.

Acquisitions

  • Tampa-based Sixwatch, a cybersecurity and IT services firm acquired Sarasota Support, a technology support organization. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Sixwatch stated this is the "first of many" acquisitions for the company.  
  • One of Tampa's longtime startup standouts, Peerfit, was acquired for an undisclosed amount. The exercise technology company was bought by LA-based FitOn. Get all the details you need

  • Sarasota-based Generations Wealth Planning LLC was acquired by Atlanta financial services firm, OneDigital Investment Advisors. The company is a subsidiary of OneDigital and announced the deal closed for an undisclosed amount.
  • Omnivore, the Silicon Valley-turned-Tampa-transplant restaurant company, was acquired by Olo, a publicly traded online ordering provider. Olo cited Omnivore's library of apps and relationships with more than 100 tech suppliers as main drivers for the deal. Get the full story.

Promotions

  • Dunedin-based SecureAire Technologies LLC named Ben Rizzo as its new CEO. The company provides air purification for residential and commercial clients. Rizzo previously founded Hartwood Point, a Pittsburgh-based private investment firm, and was president of Hadfield Elevator LLC.
  • Tampa-based A-LIGN hired Jelena Brown as its new chief human resources officer. Brown joins the cybersecurity company after stints at Deloitte and most recently, Connecticut-based LogicSource Inc.
  • Tony DiBenedetto, a longtime pillar in the tech scene, is now the CEO of Appspace, a Tampa-based SaaS company. He has served on the board the last two years as an adviser, and will essentially be switching places with now-former CEO Brendan Miles. The Business Journal's got the story.

  • Tampa-based CoreStream, which uses tech to improve employee engagement and well-being, hired Mark Cope as its new chief revenue officer. Cope previously served in multiple roles at Fort Lauderdale-based CentralReach. 

Partnerships

  • Tampa edtech company PikMyKid partnered with Central Access, the largest edtech software provider in Mississippi. The company, which already has 2,000 schools in its roster, will add 134 more districts to its lineup through its new partnership.

  • Tampa-based MD Healthcare Partners teamed up with a New York-based private equity firm on a health care platform to better patients' care. MD Healthcare Partners, a private investment firm, is working with Vesey Street Capital Partners on a platform they say will increase quality care and reduce health care costs. The two firms will deploy funds to kick-start the platform, and continue funding it through organic and acquisition-based strategies. 
  • Code-X, the St. Pete cybersecurity company that's one of our Startups to Watch this year, partnered with Amazon Web Services. AWS will use Code-X's software capabilities in its services, including in its national security solutions.

Expansions

  • Atlantic Digital Inc., a Tampa-based IT company with a focus on the defense sector, plans to add 120 jobs over the next three years. The company currently employs about half its 90 employees locally while the rest are remote. It has seen a boom post-pandemic and wants to more than double its employee base with high-wage, high-growth jobs. Get the full story
  • Ironhack, an international coding boot camp, is expanding to Tampa for its second U.S. location. It originated in Spain in 2013 and tapped Miami as its U.S. HQ in 2017. The boot camp is now slated to launch in Tampa this month, offering both nine- and 24-week programs for graduates looking to take a new tech-focused path. Get the full story

International coding bootcamp Ironhack has expanded to Tampa.

  • Cybersecurity firm OPSWAT moved from Silicon Valley to Tampa in 2021 and is now moving again to a larger local space. The company leased more than 31,000 square feet of office space at SkyCenter One near Tampa International Airport. Get the full story.
