St. Louis digital health startup Phas3, which provides software to help patients with cardiac rehabilitation, has been acquired by a company based in Austin, Texas.
Ucardia Inc., which also has created software focused on cardiac rehabilitation, said Monday it has purchased Phas3. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Phas3 has developed an app that facilitates remote cardiac rehabilitation and patient monitoring. The startup developed out of research the two co-founders, CEO Lucas Rydberg and Chief Operating Officer Dan Ebeling, did together as students at Saint Louis University on smartphone-based medical devices. It won an Arch Grant in 2019 and also has received funding and support from innovation hub BioSTL.
"We are pleased to join the Ucardia family and share the company's vision of serving even more cardiovascular disease patients with our unique and powerful combination of software and clinical services," said Rydberg in a news release.
A spokesperson said Rydberg and Ebeling will join Ucardia as head of engineering and vice president of business development, respectively. As part of its acquisition of Phas3, Ucardia announced it is launching a new product, Urcadia-at-Home, that the firm said is remote monitoring software for medical practices to help physicians track a patient’s rehabilitation progress in between doctor's office visits.
"With Phas3's compelling software that allows clinicians a convenient way to remotely monitor and engage their cardiac patients, we are confident we have a market-first product that truly allows for patient- and provider-partnered cardiac care for all modalities of remote care – from patients immediately post-discharge from a cardiac event who cannot attend traditional cardiac rehab, to patients looking for a supervised program to strengthen their heart at home," Nick Weber, Ucardia co-founder and CEO, said in a statement.
