EmpowerMe Wellness, a St. Louis-based provider of senior health services, has opened a new diagnostics laboratory in Kansas City as it continues to expand its footprint nationwide.

The new laboratory in Kansas City is the second diagnostics facility EmpowerMe Wellness has opened this year, joining a facility that is attached to its headquarters in Brentwood. The senior health provider has rapidly grown its footprint across the U.S., most recently through an M&A deal that nearly doubled its headcount.

Founded in 2017, EmpowerMe Wellness is a tech-enabled, multiservice health care provider for senior living facilities, providing integrated therapy, diagnostic, pharmacy and primary care services for their residents. It announced in January that it has raised more than $100 million from investors.

EmpowerMe Wellness’ new laboratory, located at 9001 State Line Road in Kansas City, spans 5,100 square feet and has 10 employees. The company said the new facility will be able to process 2 million samples and deliver 5.5 million test results per year and can provide results in 24 hours or less.

Tyler Witges, president of EmpowerMe Wellness’ diagnostic business unit, said the decision to open a new laboratory in Kansas City comes as the company has experienced an uptick in demand for its diagnostics services, especially after it announced in August a deal to acquire Austin, Texas-based therapy provider ONR. EmpowerMe Wellness said its diagnostics unit has averaged 10% growth in customers month over month.

“The demand for our services has been very high since we started and we’re seeing that continue to grow,” Witges said. “As our company doubled in size with the ONR transaction, we’re now talking to ONR customers who have ONR as their therapy provider and (they’re) hearing about what we’re able to offer through diagnostics, It’s just generated double the amount of interest. We needed to adapt and put plans in place to serve all those customers as well.”

EmpowerMe Wellness, with more than 2,880 employees, provides its senior health services to 100,000-plus seniors at facilities in 36 states.
