A fast-growing St. Louis technology startup has added a former Centene Corp. executive to its leadership team.

TCARE Inc., which provides technology to help senior caregivers, said Wednesday it has hired Nate Moore for the newly created role of chief operating officer. Moore previously worked for 14 years at Clayton-based managed health services provider Centene (NYSE: CNC) and most recently was its chief solutions officer. He left Centene in July 2021.

TCARE provides an evidence-based analytics program that allows social workers, care managers and care coordinators to help family members and caregivers responsible for seniors. Its technology has also been used by those caring for foster care children and kids with special needs. TCARE works with managed care organizations and government agencies as well as health, life and long-term care insurance carriers. The company’s platform is designed to reduce long-term caregiver burnout and limit the need to turn to alternative care options such as nursing homes and hospital stays.

"To be on the leadership team at TCARE today is a particularly unique opportunity. The global pandemic only highlighted the benefits of supporting our communities through aging-in-place,” Moore said. “Our unique technology platform provides a digital and data ecosystem that benefits our customers, their care recipients, and the family caregivers that support them. Helping unlock the potential in each one of our key customer segments at scale using the TCARE platform is truly the opportunity.”

TCARE CEO Ali Ahmadi said he first met Moore three years ago when the two coincidentally sat next to each other on a flight from Boston to St. Louis.

“We spoke with each other. At that time, TCARE was trying to approach Centene with a possible proposal and commercial opportunity. Unfortunately, nothing on the commercial side went through,” Ahmadi said. “Fast forward a couple years later, at the Arch Grants annual gala prior to the pandemic, we spoke with each other again. We just always kept the dialogue open.”

Admadi said Moore, as TCARE’s chief operating officer, will be responsible for managing the growth of its Medicaid and Medicare customer segment and also guide its expansion in government health care services. He believes Moore’s experience at Centene, which has rapidly climbed the Fortune 500 list over the past decade, will be critical to helping TCARE manage its own growth.

“In a growth phase of a startup, there’s different challenges that come into place. Nate was one that saw this over his 14 years at Centene. He saw Centene go from a $1 billion company to a $125 billion company. In that growth, there’s different experiences that he has that were very aligned to not only the need but also the stage of TCARE that we are at in our growth phase,” Ahmadi said.

TCARE has become one of St. Louis’ fastest-growing startups. Admadi said its top-line revenue grew 1,500% in the past two years. The company does not disclose specific revenue figures. It has grown to 120 employees and says it wants to quadruple its headcount in the next 12 months.

Previously based in Madison, Wisconsin, TCARE relocated to St. Louis after winning an Arch Grant in 2019. In 2020, it closed on a $3 million funding round led by St. Louis venture capital firm SixThirty. It expanded in December 2021 with the acquisition of New York-based software firm Ruby Home Services Inc.
