Startups on Fire — Firms under five years old

Finalist: Intramotev

The wheels are in motion for St. Louis-based Intramotev, which is developing what it describes as an autonomous, battery-powered railcar. The company in April said its technology had started being used at the Cumberland Mine in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Another milestone for Intramotev was its selection into the accelerator program of chipmaking giant Intel Corp.

What was your company’s biggest achievement in the past year?

The successful deployment of our self-propelled ReVolt train at the Cumberland Mine was our biggest achievement of the past year. The delivery marks an exciting milestone for our team and most importantly will result in cost savings and an improved environmental footprint for our customer Iron Senergy. Intramotev is the only self-propelled railcar provider in the world with units in active revenue service.

What is your company’s top goal for the next year?

Over the next year, we’re focused on scaling our self-propelled railcar technology at industrial sites across the country. This summer, we will begin the deployment of our TugVolt train at a calcium mine in northern Michigan in partnership with Carmeuse Americas. With over 1 million railcars sitting idle every day across the country, we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible for the future of freight transportation.

Are you currently hiring? If so, for what roles?

We’re actively hiring for engineers and developers who are interested in transforming the rail industry to join us at our headquarters in St. Louis. To learn more about specific roles, visit Intramotev.com/careers.
