Miami-based NFT startup Doodles is expanding its original content arm.

The web3 and entertainment brand entered into an agreement to acquire Golden Wolf, the Emmy-award winning animation studio that has created content for brands such as Disney and Meta. It's best known for contributing to Adult Swim series like "Rick and Morty."

Founded in 2021, Doodles is a collection of 10,000 non-fungible tokens (NFTS) made up of images by digital artist Scott Martin, known as Burnt Toast. Last September the startup closed a $54 million funding round led by Seven Seven Six, the investment firm started by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

When the acquisition closes, Golden Wolf and Burnt Toast will collaborate on characters and stories for original series and video games. Doodles plans to leverage Golden Wolf's partnership with creative studio Psyop to use artificial intelligence and blockchain technology to create content for brands, producers and filmmakers. Psyop is investing an undisclosed sum in Doodles as part of the deal.

"This is a move that advances our strategic priorities of creating world class content, leveraging technology to incubate new formats and ultimately, spreading joy to millions around the world,” Doodles CEO Julian Holguin said.

Golden Wolf CEO and founder Ingi Erlingsson will join Doodles as chief content officer and will continue to oversee the studio's offices in New York and London.

Doodles is building a franchise of digital collectibles that spans the animation, gaming, merchandise, music and live events industries. The goal is to create one of the most recognizable brands in web3, a term that refers to a future version of the internet that will be powered by blockchain technology.

"This partnership will unlock boundless potential within each of our businesses, accelerating our goal of redefining entertainment through engaging storytelling and worlds," Erlingsson said.
