Want a Miami tech job? You could get hired this week

South Floridians in search of technology industry jobs should get their resume's ready.

Local tech companies will seek to fill up to 1,400 positions at a job fair taking place Thursday, Dec. 2 at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus from 4-7 p.m. More than 35 companies – including homegrown ventures such as Reef Technology, Papa and Magic Leap and recent transplants like Blackstone, Blockchain.com and OpenStore – will be present to conduct on-site interviews and make on-the-spot job offers.

The event is being organized by Mayor Francis Suarez's Venture Miami initiative, which is dedicated to growing the city's technology and innovation sector.

"The Miami Movement was made by Miamians, for Miamians, and the Venture Miami Job Fair is the perfect opportunity to connect with the people and the businesses behind it," Suarez wrote in a Twitter post about the event.

Other sponsors include Miami-Dade County, Miami Dade College, Florida International University, University of Miami and Uber.

Venture Miami aims to ensure locals will have the chance to fill some of the higher-paying tech jobs migrating to South Florida as more startups and investors scale in the area. Organizations like the Knight Foundation and SoftBank are partnering with Miami colleges and universities to upgrade their STEM degree programs and produce graduates prepared for in-demand roles in cybersecurity, software engineering and more.

Despite its demographic makeup, South Florida is not among the the country's most diverse tech labor markets, ranking below metros like Pittsburgh; Nashville, Tennessee; and Charlotte, North Carolina. And while the region does lead the nation for racially diverse technology college graduates, only 20% of those graduates were women in 2020.
