Blockchain.com is open for business in Florida.

On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency exchange announced it received a money transmitter license from the state of Florida, a move that allows state residents to legally buy and sell Bitcoin and other digital currencies on its platform.

London-based Blockchain.com moved its U.S. headquarters to Miami's Brickell Financial District from New York City in June as part of an aggressive effort to scale. That includes a plan to hire hundreds of new employees in Miami by the end of 2022, starting with 100 full-time workers this year.

"Supporting job creation and the long-term prosperity of Miami-Dade residents and businesses is at the core of what we do as an organization, and Blockchain.com’s expansion is a valuable part of that growth," said Michael Finney, president and CEO of the Miami-Dade Beacon Council, the county's economic development organization.

Blockchain.com is backed by $500 million in venture capital investments and has a $5 billion valuation. The company reports it has more than 31 million verified users in 200 countries, with its number of users tripling over the past year.

Blockchain.com is one of three cryptocurrency trading exchanges with a presence in South Florida.

eToro, an Israel-based crypto investment and trading platform, is searching for office space for a new operations and innovation center in the Magic City it plans to launch by the end of 2022. The announcement came on the heels of June's Bitcoin 2021 conference, a two-day event that brought thousands of cryptocurrency enthusiasts to Miami's Wynwood Arts District

This week, Okcoin, another crypto trading platform headquartered in San Francisco, opened an office in Brickell where it plans to expand its local footprint and service its growing customer base in Latin America.
