Seattle-based remittance company Remtily Global Inc. (Nasdaq: RELY) has named Ronit Peled as the company's new chief people officer.

Peled, who was announced in her new role Tuesday, spent more than two years at the Bellevue-based education tech company DreamBox Learning before joining Remitly. A Remtily spokesperson said René Yoakum, the company's executive vice president of customer and culture, has been handling the chief people officer duties since last year.

“Success hinges on a culture of innovation and a customer-centric ethos. My goal at Remitly is to foster an environment where these principles drive every action," Peled said in a news release.

Peled will be responsible for Remitly's approach to talent, according to the company. She will report to Yoakum.

Peled was also the chief people officer at DreamBox. Before that, according to her LinkedIn page, she spent more than 10 years at the mobile messaging company OpenMarket, which was acquired by Infobip for about $300 million in 2020. Peled spent a decade at Amdocs, OpenMarket's previous parent company, before that.

DreamBox was acquired in October by competitor Discovery Education for an undisclosed amount. DreamBox, founded in 2006, offers K-8 digital math curricula and K-12 digital reading programs.

Remitly was founded in 2011. Remitly customers can send money internationally through a bank deposit, cash pickup or mobile wallet, and its services are available in more than 170 countries and territories. The company went public in 2021. In May of last year, Remitly shuttered its immigrant-focused digital banking service, called Passbook, which co-founder and CEO Matt Oppenheimer attributed to the product falling outside of its core customer segment.

Remitly generated $269.1 million in revenue during the first quarter, up 32% year over year, and recorded a net loss of $21.1 million, down from $28.3 million the year prior. The company had 6.2 million active customers during the quarter, up 36% year over year. Remitly had more than 2,700 full-time employees as of the end of 2023.
