Seattle-based telehealth company 98point6 Technologies has acquired assets from Portland-based Bright.md, a telehealth company that sold its technology to Cigna's Evernorth Health Services in October.

According to a 98point6 spokesperson, most of Bright.md's employees joined Evernorth, but 98point6 is gaining about five employees in accounts, sales and customer success. The spokesperson added that 98point6 has 100 employees after the acquisition.

The companies aren't disclosing financial terms of the deal, which was announced Tuesday.

98point6 said in a news release it is gaining 16 customers through the acquisition. 98point6 CEO Jay Burrell called the acquisition "a tremendous opportunity to engage with these 16 innovative health systems.”

The 98point6 spokesperson said Bright.md's brand and website will exist at least through August. The company is "in ongoing discussions around next steps from there."

Bright.md, founded in 2014, focuses on what it calls "asynchronous care," meaning patients fill out a questionnaire online about their symptoms, allowing them to initiate care at their convenience. The technology generates a chart note and allows clinicians to make treatment decisions faster.

98point6, meanwhile, was founded in 2015. In addition to connecting patients to health care virtually, the company automates visit documentation. The company began as a way for employers to connect employees with health care but pivoted in March to licensing its technology to health care providers. 98point6 at the time sold its original business line to Palo Alto, California-based telehealth company Transcarent for about $100 million.

98point6 first started working directly with health care providers in 2022 when it announced a partnership with Tacoma-based MultiCare Health System and its ambulatory care program, Indigo Health. The company also raised $20 million at the time. Burrell, who joined the company in 2020, took over as CEO in late 2022 for chairman and co-founder Jeffrey Greenstein. 98point6 raised $30.7 million in April of last year.
