Bungie CEO Pete Parsons took to social media Monday to announce layoffs at the Bellevue-based gaming studio.
It's the latest gaming studio to cut staff in Bellevue, following layoffs in September at ProbablyMonsters and earlier this month at Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite. In February, South Korean game publisher NCSoft laid off 23 Bellevue employees.
"Today is a sad day at Bungie as we say goodbye to colleagues who have all made a significant impact on our studio," Parsons wrote in the post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "What these exceptional individuals have contributed to our games and Bungie culture has been enormous and will continue to be a part of Bungie long into the future."
Bungie, which has more than 1,670 employees listed on LinkedIn, didn't say how many employees were laid off or how many remain at the company. A company spokesperson declined to comment beyond Parsons' post.
Founded in 1991, Bungie is the developer behind wildly popular games such as Halo and Destiny. The studio was acquired by Microsoft in 2000 before parting from the tech giant in 2007.
In July 2022, Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion. Bungie has kept its brand and runs as an independent subsidiary under Sony.
LinkedIn posts from employees indicate departments like recruiting, IT and publishing were impacted by the layoffs. Bungie has multiple job postings on its website, including roles in art, engineering and game design.
"These are truly talented people," Parsons wrote in a follow-up post. "If you have openings, I would highly recommend each and every one of them."
ProbablyMonsters founder and CEO Harold Ryan was Bungie's CEO from 2000 to 2016, after which Parsons took over the CEO role at Bungie.
