Pet insurance company Trupanion Inc. (Nasdaq: TRUP) has named former Expedia executive Fawwad Qureshi as chief financial officer.

Qureshi spent more than a year at Expedia as senior vice president of finance and oversaw finances for Expedia's consumer brands, including Expedia, Vrbo, Hotels.com, Orbitz and Travelocity. He starts with the company Sep. 25.

“We are thrilled to welcome Fawwad to Trupanion," Margi Tooth, president of Trupanion, said in a release. "He joins Trupanion with a pedigree of senior financial leadership in rapidly growing consumer businesses."

Before Expedia, Qureshi worked for more than two years at Nike, where he was the CFO for Nike Global Technology and managed the company's technology investments. Earlier in his career, Qureshi spent close to 19 years at Intel in a variety of finance roles. His LinkedIn page notes his most recent role at Intel was senior finance director.

Qureshi is replacing Wei Li, who has served as interim CFO since June and will remain with Trupanion as senior vice president of finance and corporate controller. The previous CFO, Drew Wolff, left at the start of June after over two years with the company.

Trupanion was founded in 2000 and moved its headquarters from Canada to Seattle in 2005. The company went public in 2014. Trupanion offers insurance for dogs and cats, and the company has over 900,000 pets enrolled.

Trupanion moved to its Georgetown headquarters about seven years ago and bought the building at 6100 Fourth Ave. S. for $65 million in 2018. According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Trupanion had 1,187 employees at the end of last year. Trupanion generated $270.6 million in revenue during the second quarter, a 23% year-over-year increase.

"Trupanion is well positioned for the future," Qureshi said in a news release. "I am excited to join and support the team in our mission to help loving, responsible pet owners around the world.”
