Flexe names former Majestic Steel exec as its first chief operating officer

Seattle-based logistics company Flexe has hired its first chief operating officer.

Dave Kipe, a former executive at Majestic Steel USA and Scholastic, announced on LinkedIn earlier this month that he will join Flexe as its COO. A Flexe spokesperson said this is a new role for the company.

In his LinkedIn post, Kipe said he is excited to join "an amazing and talented team" at Flexe.

Kipe spent the past four years as executive vice president and COO of Cleveland-based Majestic Steel, according to his LinkedIn page, before which he spent more than a year as COO of industrial supply company Global Industrial. Earlier in his career, he spent more than three years at Scholastic as senior vice president of global supply chain.

His LinkedIn page shows he started working at the company in August.

Flexe was founded in 2013. The company offers on-demand warehouse and fulfillment, with the aim of turning warehouse space into a variable cost rather than a fixed cost. Its clients include Great Jones and Ace Hardware.

Flexe raised a $119 million Series D round in July of last year and pushed its value to more than $1 billion. After the fundraise, the company moved out of its Pioneer Square space and into a roughly 50,500-square-foot office and warehouse space at 4786 First Ave. S. in Seattle's Sodo area.

In July of last year, Flexe confirmed that it had laid off a small number of employees on the recruiting team after adjusting its hiring plan.
