Seattle-based venture capital firm Madrona Venture Group has named former Tableau CEO Mark Nelson as a venture partner.

Before the new role, Nelson had been a strategic director at Madrona since December 2021, according to his LinkedIn page. Madrona on Wednesday also named Ted Kummert, former chief product development officer at UiPath, and Loren Alhadeff, who spent more than 14 years at DocuSign, as venture partners.

“A deep bench of world-class operators helping early-stage companies build and scale their organizations is critical to our success,” Scott Jacobson, managing director at Madrona, said in a release.

Nelson spent more than four years at Seattle-based analytics tool Tableau, which was acquired by Salesforce for $15.7 billion in 2019. He stepped down as CEO in December and has since been replaced by Ryan Aytay, who has been with Salesforce since 2007 and had most recently served as Tableau's chief revenue officer. Before Nelson became CEO in 2021, he has been Tableau's executive vice president of product development.

Kummert is returning to Madrona after his first stint with the firm 10 years ago. He spent more than three years at UiPath, his LinkedIn page shows, as well as four years at Bellevue-based Apptio, a tech spending software company that is being acquired by IBM for $4.6 billion. Kummert spent more than 23 years at Microsoft earlier in his career.

In his more than 14 years at DocuSign, Alhadeff held the chief operating officer and chief revenue officer roles. According to Madrona, annual revenue grew from $2.5 million to over $2.5 billion during his tenure at DocuSign.

Madrona was founded in 1995 and has invested in big names like Amazon, Redfin and Rover. The firm raised $690 million between two funds in September. That same month, Madrona opened a Palo Alto office with Karan Mehandru, former venture capital lead at Steadfast Capital, as a new managing director to lead the Bay Area outpost.
