Chinese gaming company NetEase Inc. (Nasdaq: NTES) is launching a gaming studio called Anchor Point Studios that will be headquartered in Seattle and Barcelona.

NetEase announced the new studio Wednesday and said Anchor Point plans to hire up to 100 workers. The roles include developers, artists and designers.

"We want to build an adventure that will stay fresh and provide a unique experience that will surprise and delight people each time they play," Paul Ehreth, founder and CEO of Anchor Point, said in a release. "We're grateful to NetEase Games for giving us the creative freedom and resources to build this interconnected world that will expand beyond games and reach into other mediums as well.”

On its website, Anchor Point lists open roles in animation, art and artificial intelligence. According to the release, Anchor Point is developing action-adventure games for both consoles and PCs, and the aim is to "bring elements of surprise into the gameplay."

Ehreth has over 20 years of experience, according to NetEase, including working on games like Control and Halo. His LinkedIn page notes his past roles include director of the game studio Smilegate Barcelona and a leadership role at the game studio Remedy Entertainment.

NetEase, founded in 1997, produces games through its subsidiary NetEase Games, which will house Anchor Point. NetEast Games' titles include "Harry Potter: Magic Awakened" and "The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War." NetEase also owns the subsidiaries Youdao, an intelligent learning company, and Cloud Music, an online music content community.

“When we met Paul, we immediately realized he had the passion to create truly magical worlds, with experiences that are surprising and offer something new every single time they are played," Simon Zhu, president of global investments and partnerships at NetEase Games, said in a release. "We know Anchor Point Studios is reaching for the stars and we’ll make every effort to help them get there.”
