Artificial intelligence data company LXT has named former Appen executive Carolyn Harvey as vice president of operations.

Harvey's LinkedIn shows she spent more than 12 years at Appen, an LXT competitor with its U.S. headquarters in Kirkland. LXT said in a news release Harvey led service delivery at Appen. She left the company in December 2021.

“Having worked in the AI data industry for over a decade, I understand that quality service delivery is complex and constantly evolving to meet customers’ changing data needs," Harvey said in a release. "I am honored to join the LXT team and am excited to use my experience to help the company continue to deliver high-quality data for its clients."

Harvey spent roughly a year in between Appen and LXT as a consultant, according to her LinkedIn page. Earlier in her career, she spent about a year at Expedia and more than 12 years at Bank of America.

In her role at LXT, which is headquartered in the Toronto area, she will report to Yassin Omar, the company's chief operating officer, and be responsible for strategy and structure, the company said.

Appen and LXT both specialize in collecting and annotating data to help AI technologies. LXT was founded in 2010 and provides video, text, image, audio and data annotation. LXT has more than 350 employees listed on LinkedIn.

Though Appen's U.S. headquarters is in Kirkland, its global headquarters is near Sydney, Australia. In January, the company announced former KPMG digital leader Armughan Ahmad was beginning his role as Appen's president and CEO. The company has almost 2,000 employees globally, according to Ahmad, and plans to grow its presence in the Seattle area.

"(AI) could be one of the most exciting technological advances since the iPhone," Ahmad told the Business Journal in January. "What we once thought was the distant future is happening right now. I believe in the power of AI to improve lives."
