Seattle-based medical technology company Know Labs Inc. has named Ron Erickson, the company's founder and chairman, as its new CEO.

Know Labs, which announced the move Jan. 26, said Erickson has worked with the company for about 20 years. He is replacing Phil Bosua, who has led the company as CEO since 2018.

"Our focus now is accelerating product development and testing while working toward the FDA clearance process for medical devices,” Erickson said in a news release. “We anticipate our work toward this goal will accelerate in 2023, as a result of the progress made by our team, with support from our investors."

Bosua is no longer on the company's board. He will now be a technical adviser and consultant at Know Labs. Bosua joined Know Labs, which went by Visualant until a 2018 rebrand, in 2017 as chief product officer, according to his LinkedIn page. Know Labs said in the release he will advise the product development team and focus on innovation in artificial intelligence.

Erickson founded Know Labs in 2003. He also co-founded a media and entertainment company called Blue Frog Mobile, his LinkedIn page shows, and was chairman of the board of trustees at Central Washington University for more than 10 years.

Know Labs, which is publicly traded, uses radio waves to understand what is going on inside of patients' bodies, with the aim of avoiding test strips and lancets. The company calls its technology Bio-RFID, and its first target is creating a non-invasive glucose monitor. Know Labs is developing a palm-reading glucose monitor called the KnowU and a wristband called the UBand, both of which still need Food and Drug Administration clearance before reaching the market.

"The Know Labs’ foundational technology that I invented is unique and will change people’s lives, and I’m proud of that," Bosua said in the release. "I trust that the Know Labs team has the capability to take the technology from here and deliver the first non-invasive blood glucose monitor into the market.”
