Seattle-based education technology company Promethean has acquired Explain Everything, a teaching software company.

The companies announced the acquisition on Monday. A Promethean spokesperson said Explain Everything's 53 employees, who are based in Wrocław, Poland, are joining Promethean, which now has 618 employees globally.

"Joining the Explain Everything team with ours is part of our commitment to continuously innovate and work towards providing a superior interactive experience from anywhere,” Vin Riera, Promethean's CEO, said in a release. “This exciting opportunity and new relationship for both companies will allow us to expand our already robust offerings."

The companies aren't disclosing the financial terms of the deal.

The Promethean spokesperson said Explain Everything's employees will continue to work out of the company's office in Poland. The spokesperson didn't say what will happen to the Explain Everything brand but said the brand "is loved by educators worldwide and has a strong brand presence within the education market."

Promethean was founded in 1996, according to its LinkedIn page. The company offers interactive displays designed for teaching. Users can write on the displays, erase and share screens. Promethean also offers software to help develop lessons and foster remote learning. Promethean is a subsidiary of the Chinese gaming and internet company NetDragon Websoft Holdings Ltd.

Riera was the CEO of Collegis Education, a tech company aimed at higher education enrollment, before joining Promethean in January 2017.

Explain Everything, meanwhile, helps teachers make instructional videos and digital whiteboard lessons that can be shared through a link. The company's technology works with video conferencing tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Explain Everything says its apps have been downloaded more than 20 million times.

"We’re thrilled to now be part of the Promethean team,” Reshan Richards, co-founder and CEO of Explain Everything, said in a release. “Together, we will continue to provide the most effective interactive learning tools for students and teachers around the world.”
