Seattle-based mobile mechanic service Wrench Inc. has acquired YourMechanic, a Mountain View, California-based competitor.

A Wrench spokesperson said YourMechanic has about 40 full-time employees but uses contractors for its services. Those 40 employees have been offered roles at Wrench, but not all of them plan to join the company, the spokesperson added. YourMechanic's team was working remote and will continue to do so.

“This is a significant milestone for Wrench as it adds more automotive experts to our marketplace and enables us to expand on our ability to deliver the flexibility and trustworthy service that today’s vehicle owner expects,” Wrench CEO Ed Petersen said in a news release. “By welcoming the YourMechanic ecosystem to Wrench, we are expanding what was already the largest mobile vehicle service network in existence."

The companies aren't disclosing financial terms of the deal.

With the acquisition, Wrench now has 325 full-time employees, the spokesperson said. As for the companies' brands, the spokesperson said the only immediate difference customers will notice is more technicians will be available.

Wrench, founded in 2015, provides mechanics that come to customers, rather than customers having to bring their cars to a shop. According to Wrench, most of its services can be done in customers' driveways and parking spots at work. The company provides brake pad replacements, oil changes and belt changes, among other services. Wrench also does used vehicle inspections.

YourMechanic, meanwhile, was founded in 2012. The company also provides mobile mechanic services to customers' homes and offices. YourMechanic is backed by big names like Andreessen Horowitz and SoftBank. With the acquisition, Wrench can now serve customers in over 35,000 zip codes, according to the company.

“This acquisition also allows us to expand the support we give to our strategic partners such as Carvana, SilverRock, Geico, Tesla, and Firestone Complete Auto Care in even more areas allowing our partners to offer our hassle free in-home service to even more of their customers,” Petersen said in a news release.
