Redmond-based fitness tech startup JaxJox is getting an Olympic gold medal boost.

The company on Thursday announced retired American sprinter and four-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson has joined JaxJox's advisory board. According to the company, Johnson will help with its growth strategy and workout programming.

"JAXJOX's innovative workouts and one-touch weight adjustability is one-of-a-kind," Johnson said in a news release. "I look forward to advising the team as they continue to build on a data-centric fitness platform."

Johnson captured the gold medal in both the 200- and 400-meter dash at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the only male athlete in history to win both races at the same Olympics. He also won golds at the four-by-400-meter relay at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and the 400-meter dash at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

In addition to his Olympic wins, Johnson was known for his trademark gold shoes. His 400-meter gold medal in Atlanta set an Olympic record with a time of 43.49 seconds.

JaxJox offers a home gym studio that comes with a 43-inch touchscreen, adjustable kettlebell and dumbbell weights, and a vibrating foam roller. On its website, the studio cost is listed as $2,499 with an additional membership cost of $39 per month. The company was founded in 2016, according to its LinkedIn page, and it launched its home gym studio last year.

JaxJox is competing in a crowded home-gym space that includes brands like Peloton, NordicTrack and Bowflex. Peloton went public on the Nasdaq in 2019.

"We're honored to have Michael Johnson join our advisory board," CEO Stephen Owusu said in a news release. "His combined athletic background and business acumen bring a unique perspective to the JaxJox team. With the support of Michael, we will continue our mission to provide a personalized workout experience to help our members become healthier and stronger."
