Seattle-based family-organizing app Cozi has been acquired by OurFamilyWizard, or OFW, a Minneapolis-based co-parenting app aimed at divorced families.

The companies didn't disclose the terms of the deal, which was announced Wednesday. Cozi's 11 employees are joining OFW, according to a company spokesperson, but the employees won't have to relocate. OFW had about 100 employees before the acquisition, the spokesperson added.

“For more than 20 years, OFW has provided a central hub for peaceful co-parenting, empowering parents with tools to keep their children's world turning,” Nick VanWagner, CEO of OFW, said in a news release. “With the addition of Cozi, we will expand upon that mission even further by providing the go-to destination to help families of all types. This will enable us to positively impact more families regardless of where they are on their journeys.”

The spokesperson said the Cozi brand will remain independent despite the acquisition. OFW acquired the company from Dotdash Meredith, the publishing company behind brands like Investopedia, Food & Wine and Martha Stewart Living.

Cozi, founded in 2005, allows families to manage their calendars, shopping lists and meal plans, among other features. According to the company, Cozi has more than 20 million registered users.

OFW, meanwhile, was founded in 2001. The app offers co-parenting tools like shared calendars, messaging and expense tracking. The company aims to reduce conflicts involved in co-parenting after separation. OFW received an investment from Spectrum Equity in April of 2020, the same time it announced VanWagner as its CEO. The company didn't disclose the amount. Spectrum Equity's portfolio includes brands like AllTrails, Ancestry, Grubhub and SurveyMonkey.

“As we continue to scale the OurFamilyWizard team and grow our investment in co-parenting technology, we’re excited to welcome Cozi and address a broader set of family needs with the innovative solution this talented team has built,” VanWagner said in the release.
