Seattle-based apprenticeship nonprofit Apprenti has made multiple key hires as it looks to expand its services.

The nonprofit announced this week that Al Cave is its new chief operations officer, while Laurie Martin is taking over the chief sales officer role. Lisa Wallace, meanwhile, has been named vice president of program operations.

"Apprenti is a small yet mighty organization, and I'm so proud of what we've accomplished over the last five years," Jennifer Carlson, co-founder and executive director at Apprenti, said in a news release. "With Al, Laurie and Lisa on board, I'm confident we will increase the impact of registered tech apprenticeships for women, veterans, people of color, people with disabilities and employers."

Prior to his new role, Cave was the national practice leader at Apprenti. Before that, he spent 11 years at Northern Trust Corp., according to Apprenti, where his most recent role was chief compliance and ethics officer. Martin, meanwhile, was previously the senior vice president of global sales at the consulting firm Lee Hecht Harrison, where she spent more than five years.

Before joining Apprenti, Wallace was a regional vice president of nonprofit sales at Salesforce.org, the arm of Salesforce that works with nonprofits and schools.

Apprenti, founded in 2016, helps people from underrepresented groups like women, people of color, veterans and people with disabilities find apprenticeship opportunities. The nonprofit also partners with employers looking to foster a more diverse workforce. According to Apprenti, the nonprofit is in 18 markets and wants to double its placements next year. Apprenti is also expanding into the gaming, aerospace and life sciences industries, the company said.

"The talent gap within the tech industry is only going to grow larger," Carlson said in a release. "It is imperative that programs like Apprenti continue to grow too, which not only helps close this gap but builds a more diverse and engaged workforce."
