Seattle-based freight network startup Convoy on Thursday announced it has hired John Morrow as its new general counsel. He begins at the start of November.

Morrow spent about a year and a half as the general counsel at Redmond-based bill payment company Paymentus, which went public on the New York Stock Exchange in May. Despite his IPO experience, Morrow said Convoy isn't expecting to go public in the immediate future.

"Our investors recognize that we're really in the early stages of transforming a massive industry," Morrow said. "Me coming on board does not signal an S-1 getting filed for Convoy tomorrow or anything like that. It's definitely still years down the road."

Morrow is replacing Diankha Linear, Convoy's previous general counsel and corporate secretary. Linear left the company in May to become the chief operating officer at Community, a Santa Monica, California-based startup that provides text messaging at scale.

Before Paymentus, Morrow spent more than five years at Bellevue-based Apptio, where he was also general counsel. He also spent close to eight years at Denver-based Vertafore.

Convoy, founded in 2015, connects freight shippers and carriers. The company's technology allows carriers to bid on loads through an app, and it aims to help shippers with costs and supply chain efficiency. Convoy's clients include Unilever, Anheuser-Busch and Wayfair. The company raised $400 million in 2019 and reached a value of about $2.7 billion.

Morrow isn't the only new face in an important leadership position at Convoy. In June, the company named Amazon vet Dorothy Li as its new chief technology officer. Co-founder and previous CTO Grant Goodale, meanwhile, moved into a new role managing Convoy's carrier marketplace.

“John is a strategic business leader with proven success scaling and leading diverse teams of all sizes across legal, corporate development and operational functions,” Dan Lewis, co-founder and CEO of Convoy, said in a statement. “John’s experience is perfectly aligned with our needs and he is going to be an excellent addition to our team and the culture we are building at Convoy."
