Local startups aren't the only tech companies pumping jobs into the Puget Sound region. As investors continue to make big venture capital bets around the country, growing startups are expanding their hiring across a variety of regions.
The following six companies, while not based in the Seattle area, have dozens of open positions in the region:
TikTok
- Founded: The Chinese version of TikTok, called Douyin, launched in 2016; TikTok launched the following year.
- HQ: TikTok is a product of the Chinese company ByteDance.
- Description: Social video platform
Local hiring plans: TikTok is "rapidly growing" in the Seattle area, a company spokesperson told the Business Journal this month. The company is currently hiring more than 120 people in the Seattle area, according to its website, including roles in engineering, product and human resources.
Rivian
- Founded: 2009
- HQ: Irvine, California
- Description: Electric vehicle maker
Local hiring plans: Rivian, which in July announced a $2.5 billion investment led by Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund, is hiring almost 40 roles in the region "with more on the way," a Rivian spokesperson told the Business Journal. The employees will remain mostly remote as Rivian figures out its workplace strategy, the spokesperson said. Though Rivian has a Bellevue service center, the hiring push seems to extend beyond service-related jobs. According to its website, the company has open roles in the area in cybersecurity, engineering and data science.
Stripe
- Founded: 2010
- HQ: San Francisco and Dublin
- Description: Online payments company
- Local hiring plans: Stripe, which was worth $95 billion as of March, is hiring more than 380 roles in Seattle, according to its website. The roles range from engineering to sales to finance.
Square
- Founded: 2009
- HQ: San Francisco
- Description: A payments and banking company for small businesses
- Local hiring plans: Square has more than 30 open roles available in Seattle. They include data science, engineering and design positions. Some of the Seattle roles at Square, which is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange, are available in multiple locations.
UiPath
- Founded: 2005
- HQ: New York City
- Description: Automation technology
- Local hiring plans: UiPath is hiring more than 20 roles in Bellevue. The company, which debuted on the New York Stock Exchange this year, is hiring roles such as engineering, IT support and product.
SoFi
- Founded: 2011
- HQ: San Francisco
- Description: A lending, investing, banking and insurance company
- Local hiring plans: SoFi has about 20 roles available in the Seattle area. All of the roles are available in multiple locations. SoFi went public on the Nasdaq through a SPAC merger this year.
