Bellevue-based travel agency software startup Gordian Software has raised a $25 million Series A round.
The round, announced Wednesday, will help the company add new features and expand into other segments, according to a release, and the company is looking to triple its headcount by the end of the year. On its LinkedIn page, Gordian says it has more than 30 employees.
“Much of the airline industry is stuck in a technological time warp, working with outdated systems that don’t communicate with each other,” Stephen Grabowski, co-founder and CEO of Gordian, said in the release. “We are solving this problem by providing a simple, flexible platform for selecting and purchasing add-ons.”
On its website, Gordian has open roles in finance, engineering and product, among others. The company says it has raised $33 million to date and has a value of $200 million.
Gordian, founded in 2017, works with travel agencies to help them upsell customers on upgrades like seat selection, priority boarding and extra baggage. Although Gordian's clients are travel sites like Priceline and Hopper, the company also works with "upwards of 100 airlines," Gordian said in the release.
The company says airlines don't get much return on their investment from normal tickets, but add-ons are high-margin products that can increase profits. Airlines the company works with include United Airlines, American Airlines and Aeromexico.
In the release announcing the funding, Gordian said new products it's eyeing include insurance, fare protection, health testing and automatic check-in.
Venture firm Accomplice and its sister firm Vinyl led the round, while Kinnevik, DST Global Partners and Latitude participated. Accomplice has invested in AngelList, DraftKings and Plastiq, among others.
“Personalization and rapid expansion of ancillaries within travel is inevitable, and Gordian has quickly proven to be the solution for some of the largest travel brands in the world," TJ Mahony, partner at Vinyl, said in a release.
