Goundfloor, the social club and co-working space startup, is opening a new location next week in Oakland and has plans for two more this year in San Rafael and Los Angeles.

The company already operates one social club with 550 members on at 455 Valencia St. in San Francisco.

The new location in Oakland at 4055 Telegraph Ave. is 3,000 square feet of social, co-working, dining and event space. It currently has about 250 members signed up and is taking on new applications, according to Groundfloor CEO Jamie Snedden.

Members pay $200 a month to access the facilities and participate in events held by the organization, along with access to snacks.

Snedden founded the company after experiencing social isolation and difficulty making friends as a result of the pandemic. He attributes the success of his brand to the widespread isolation among adults and the difficulty of making friends at later ages that is driving some to seek out communities.

"Folks are incredibly lonely at the moment and very isolated and probably working from home up to five days a week — it's really hard to find friendship and your options for doing that are quite limited," Snedden said. "We effectively a guarantee that if you join Groundfloor, we will make your friendship finding process significantly easier."

In August, Groundfloor plans to open a third 2,500-square-foot location in downtown San Rafael, and then in October it aims to open an 8,000-square-foot club in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

For 2024, Snedden says he is looking at the South Bay and is scouting 3,000-5,000-square-foot locations in Burlingame and Menlo Park, and wants to expand nationally after that.
