San Francisco startup Qordoba Inc., commonly known as Writer, has sued Twitter in the California Superior Court, alleging the social media giant failed to pay a yearly subscription fee for its services.

According to the lawsuit, Twitter agreed to pay the second year of a two-year contact for the startup's services from October 2021 to October 2023. Twitter paid $113,856 for the first year but did not pay the same amount for the second year within 60 days of when payment came due last October, Writer's complaint states.

Elon Musk bought Twitter at the end of October and went on an immediate cost-cutting crusade, including layoffs and stopping payments to many vendors, including its landlords.

Writer is a generative AI company that operates a platform that uses AI to generate bodies of text for enterprises such as press releases and blog posts. It can be used as a writing assistant for internal communications.

The company did not respond to a request for comment; Twitter no longer has a communications team to answer such requests.

Twitter has been the subject of a myriad of lawsuits since Elon Musk bought the company and apparently stopped paying many of the company's bills and even rent on its offices. The company is being sued by landlords at its properties around the world, including by the owner of its headquarters in San Francisco, while facing class actions by former employees that were laid off.
