At least in the Bay Area, the venture community seems to be primarily focused on early-stage companies.

At midweek, 12 startups announced they'd raised $186 million in funding combined. But just one of those companies is a later-stage business. And its funding round was only slightly bigger than the largest of the early-stage deals.
