Denver technology executive Jason Godley is set to take over as president at San Mateo-based startup Booster as the energy delivery company prepares for nationwide expansion.

Godley, a long-time finance executive, shifts into the role after nearly three years as chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Booster. He previously spent time at Colorado’s Fastaff Travel Nursing, Phoenix-based IO and Citi.

Booster was founded in 2015 with the original idea of eliminating the chore of going to the gas station, bringing fuel delivery right into people’s vehicles. The company has shifted its focus in recent years, now delivering energy to last-mile fleets, from large package delivery companies to landscapers.

The company’s tech-enabled mini-tankers deliver energy to fleet vehicles at night to save them the time of going to the gas station.

Godley slides into the new role at a busy time for Booster, as the company has seen more than 70% customer growth since April 2020 and added renewable energy offerings. He’ll continue to oversee finance and operations growth, but adds a new people-focus that he’s passionate about.

“As we go from where we’ve been into a lot more people, I’m really focusing on ensuring their's a lot of clarity around what Booster is doing, our values, the operating rhythm and how we make sure they work well together,” he said.

Godley, a certified life coach in addition to his finance expertise, added that he’ll look to “unlock the magic” of Booster’s employees.

Currently, Booster offers its fuel delivery services in eight markets across the country and is eyeing national expansion. In 2020, Booster said it helped more than 300 businesses save a cumulative $8.8 million in energy costs, avoid 2.2 million vehicle miles traveled and avert nearly 2 million pounds of CO2 emissions.

As it weighs where to take its operations next, Godley said Denver is in the company’s plans.

“Colorado is on that roadmap over time for us to bring actual operations to and provide our service to customers in Denver,” he said.

On the renewables front, Booster recently announced a partnership with Renewable Energy Group to provide mobile delivery of renewable diesel, biodiesel and blended fuels to fleets. The service began in California in August and Godley said it is one step in helping companies decarbonize their fleets.

Godley is joined in Denver by a small team that includes financial analysts and sales operations. In addition to the business side of his new role, he sees a responsibility in mentoring the Booster team.

“For me, the opportunity to be a leader of the company does two things, help the planet, which we’re doing, but also the opportunity for me to help, support and groom the next set of leaders,” he said. “I take a lot of responsibility in doing that and get pretty fired up about it.”
