Eighteen Bay Area startups were singled out among LinkedIn's annual ranking of the 50 best young venture-backed companies in the country.
Many of them reflect the trends that accelerated during the pandemic of starups that helps with remote work and learning, digital health and deliveries.
"Over the past year and a half, professionals across the U.S. have been pushed to reevaluate the way they live and work in the wake of the pandemic," LinkedIn wrote about its ranking of the top startups of 2021, which were announced Wednesday. "With economic recovery starting to happen at different paces across industries, many professionals are looking for something new, asking themselves: 'What’s next?'"
The companies had to be no more than seven years old and were rated based employee growth; jobseeker interest; member engagement with the company and its employees; and how well they startups pulled talent from LinkedIn.
Here are the Bay Area companies that made the list, with their LinkedIn ranking, headquarters location and most recent valuation:

15. Samsara Inc., a San Francisco cloud-based operations management software company, valued at $5.4 billion.
16. Verkada Inc., a San Mateo enterprise security camera company, valued at $1.6 billion.
20. GitLab Inc., a San Francisco code collaboration software company, valued at $6 billion.
21. Master Class, a San Francisco online education company that's also known as Yanka Industries Inc., valued at $2.75 billion.
22. Medable Inc., a Palo Alto developer of cloud-based software for medical practitioners, valued at $728 million.
29. Scale AI Inc., a San Francisco developer of software to help with creating artificial intelligence applications, valued at $7.3 billion.
31. Hinge Health Inc., a San Francisco developer of wearable motion sensors designed to help treat musculoskelatal pain, valued at $3 billion.
33. Neuralink Corp., a Fremont developer of an implantable device designed to help treat paralysis, valued at $2.1 billion.
34. Nuro Inc., a Mountain View autonomous delivery vehicle company, valued at $5 billion.
37. Lyra Health Inc., a Burlingame developer of software that connects users live to a curated network of therapists and coaches, valued at $4.6 billion.
