Y Combinator kicked off its annual summer Demo Day on Wednesday and nearly all of the startups building products and services with AI have founders based in the Bay Area.
Overall, the accelerator's summer cohort was its smallest batch in three years, clocking in around 45% smaller than its winter batch in 2022 when the number of startups accepted exceeded 400.
Yet, nearly three-quarters of the entire summer cohort have founders who are based in the Bay Area, according to YC's website.
Out of the more than 200 startups in the summer cohort, 126 are working on AI-related things, and of those, around 90% have founders who are based in the Bay Area, according to a Bay Area Inno analysis.
Around four dozen companies in the entire batch are specifically building generative AI-related products and services, including three dozen Bay Area companies.
"San Francisco is the new home for YC. We've brought people from around the world to come to San Francisco. We believe putting the most eminent founders of our generation together makes YC in San Francisco just like Rome or Athens in antiquity," YC president and CEO Garry Tan said during the virtual event. "Send us your best and they'll cross pollinate the most potent culture of Silicon Valley across every part of the world."
Here are all 100-plus Bay Area startups that are tagged with "AI" and "generative AI" in Y Combinator's current summer batch.
