Y Combinator's kicked off Demo Day for its summer batch Wednesday, and even though this cohort was smaller than the previous group, the accelerator is still holding the event over two days.

The cohort had 240 startups, compared with 414 in the preceding winter batch, and it's also the first group to get the accelerator's larger investment.

In January, the accelerator announced that it was quadrupling its investment in startups to $500,000, with the first $125,000 giving it a 7% stake and the remaining capital applied towards future shares.

The accelerator accepted 40% fewer startups this time due to "macroeconomic conditions and the 'realities of being back in person,' and not in response to prior criticism" about the growing size of its batches, The Information reported in early August.

Of the startups that have launched publicly in Y Combinator's online database, more than five dozen in this summer batch are based in the Bay Area, including 51 in the San Francisco area.

A quarter of these local startups are building developer tools, and a few are developing no-code tools. Unsurprisingly, software dominates here but this local batch also has companies working in virtual reality gaming, consumer health care, fintech, autonomous vehicles, logistics, dating, e-commerce, satellites and biotech.

Without further ado, here are the San Francisco area startups, which is made up of S.F. and the East Bay, that are potentially pitching this week, organized by industry (though many cross over into multiple categories):
