Many self-identified foodies are happy watching competitive cooking shows or eating out at highly rated restaurants.

But some want to try out gourmet cooking themselves.

Flavrs Inc. is hoping to help. The San Francisco startup has developed an app that offers video instructions for making gourmet dishes and quick links to Instacart to order the ingredients needed for them.

"I couldn't be more proud to offer creators and foodies alike a home where they can watch, shop and eat," Flavrs co-founder and CEO Alejandro Oropeza said in a news release. He continued: "We look forward to creating an experience that celebrates and amplifies more people, ideas and cultures around food."

The startup, which was founded in 2020, has some new cash it plans to use to fund the testing of its app and to enlist chefs to create videos for its app. It announced Tuesday it's raised $7 million in a seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz.

Among Flavs' other funders is Eric Ripert, the chef and co-owner of Le Bernardin restaurant, a three Michelin star restaurant in New York. Ripert will also be contributing videos to the startup's service.

Flavrs launched its app on Apple Inc.'s App Store Tuesday; it is not clear whether the company plans to offer the app through Google LLC's Play Store.
