Application security startup NeuraLegion raised a $20 million Series A on Wednesday, and also announced a rebranding to Bright Security.

The San Francisco company offers streamlined security testing for both web-based and API applications with the goal of allowing any developer to understand and use the program, not just security experts.

The funding round was led by Evolution Equity Partners and also included DNX Ventures, J-ventures, Fusion Fund and Incubate Fund.

It also raised a $4.7 million seed round in October, bringing its total funding to nearly $25 million.

“We created a tool that caters to developers as well as AppSec teams, offering a solution that provides remediation solutions in developer speak as well as AppSec language to enable effective usage both pre- and post-production,” said co-founder and CEO Gadi Bashvitz in a statement.

And the rebrand is meant to "reflect its mission to illuminate the security testing process," the company said in a press release.

The application security market is expected to be worth nearly $13 billion by 2025, according to a 2021 report from research firm Forrester.

Bright Security charges subscription fees based on usage needs from a free tier to $799 monthly, as well as custom enterprise pricing. The company says developers at 4,000 organizations and 50 enterprise clients are using its services.

The company has 70 employees which it plans to more than double by June with a focus on hiring for engineering, sales and marketing.
