A San Francisco startup is hoping to bring artificial intelligence to the battlefield — but not in a Terminator-like way.

TurbineOne LLC is developing software to help soldiers and first responders navigate dangerous situations by offering them better situational awareness. The software uses artificial intelligence to help those on the front lines make sense of data from remote sensors and robots. The company designed its system to work in areas where the internet is unavailable and the AI algorithms have to run on soldiers' and first responders' devices.

This week, the company got a vote of confidence in its service, announcing it had raised $3 million in seed funding from XYZ Venture Capital. It plans to use the new funds to expand its engineering team and speed up development of its software, it said in a news release.

Here's more on TurbineOne's round and other seed funding news from this past week:

TurbineOne LLC, San Francisco, $3 million: XYZ Venture Capital led the round for this developer of software that provides real-time situational data for first responders and soldiers.

Arcade Software Inc., Hillsborough, $2.5 million: Upfront Ventures led the round for this provider of software that helps online companies create interactive demonstrations of their services. Sequoia Capital, Mathilde Collin, Laura Behrens Wu and Jaren Glover also invested.
