San Antonio's Dura Software has named a new chief operating technology and product officer to its team — a new role for the rapidly growing company.

Newly installed executive Jonathan Taylor is the founder and former CEO of cloud-based telehealth platform SecureVideo, which was acquired by Dura in December. He continued to serve as interim CEO before moving into his new position in the spring.

Madison Mauze replaced Taylor as SecureVideo's chief executive.

Taylor told the Business Journal that his new role at Dura is an opportunity to use his dual skillset in technology and product development.

Taylor said he began programming when he was 11 years old.

"You know how when something is magical and awesome to you as a kid, it often stays with you throughout your life?" he said. "That's what technology was for me."

Taylor received his undergraduate degree from University of California at Berkeley in economics, then earned an MBA from Wharton School of Business. During his career he founded three startups: a fantasy sports startup, a health care document management system startup and finally, SecureVideo.

Taylor will serve as fractional chief technology officer for Dura's portfolio companies. He'll oversee the evaluation of acquisitions as the company grows and help manage product and technology standards and performance.

He said one of the biggest challenges he's overcome is transitioning his attention from SecureVideo to the broader responsibilities of overseeing all the companies in Dura's portfolio.

"(SecureVideo) was my baby," he said. "We went through Covid together where we increased our usage by 30 times in a span of two months."

During the pandemic, dozens of private equity firms expressed interest in buying SecureVideo, but it was Dura's holding model that caught his attention.

"These are good people who make companies better and hold them forever," he said. "There are not a lot of companies doing it like that. We want to have nice places to work, we want good cultures. And that's what Dura's building."

Paul Salisbury, Dura Software CEO, said in a release that Taylor's expertise crosses multiple technologies and platforms.

"As Dura accelerates growth over the next several years, the value that (Taylor) will provide across the entire portfolio of companies will be critical for us," he wrote.
