Dallas-headquartered CityVet, a network of 25 veterinary-owned practices, has announced six new partner veterinarians opening new clinics in several states — including three new CityVet clinics in San Antonio between now and 2023.

Currently, there are four CityVet clinics in the Alamo City, including two in the US-281 corridor north of Loop 1604, one in Alamo Ranch and one in Alamo Heights, collectively employing 50 to 60 San Antonio residents.

CityVet Executive Chairman Andy Anderson, a San Antonio resident, said the three new CityVets will open in Alamo Ranch, Schertz and Stone Oak.

"Two more should open by the first quarter of 2023, and by mid-year one more," he told the Business Journal, adding that the number of local employees will approximately double when the new clinics open.

Nationally, the company will also be expanding into new markets, with plans over the next few years to open clinics in Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Tampa and Phoenix. It will also be adding more clinics in Dallas and Denver, where CityVet already has a presence.

Each retail-medical facility will employ 10 to 25 people, Anderson told the Business Journal.

CityVet's business model is helping veterinarian entrepreneurs become owners of their own practice.

"We have a joint venture partnership model with vets who are not (yet) comfortable with the many decisions and challenges of business ownership and entrepreneurship," Anderson said, noting that CityVet offers a leadership academy as well.

CityVet was founded in 1999 by Dr. Chip Cannon and has expanded to 25 clinics nationally.
